Customer Services and Complete account management

Using your own custom DNS

If you want to enable advanced DNS features on your domain name, then here is what you will need to do in the order it needs to be done.

Step 1: Enable Advanced DNS for your domain name.

To do this, login to your clientarea and raise a support ticket to let us know exactly which of your domain names require advanced/custom DNS and we shall enable it for you the same day.

Step 2: Set your name servers correctly.

If your website will remain hosted with us but you simply want to add or make small changes to your DNS, such as MX records, or additional CNAME records then you can leave your name servers pointed at us if we already host your website.

If you require your website to be hosted elsewhere or do not have any web hosting with us at all, then before you can use custom DNS records you will need to either point your name at your web host and manage the DNS through them, OR, change the name servers to the 4 master name servers @ ENOM and then you can edit/change absolutely everything.

The master DNS name servers for using Custom DNS setups are:

dns1.name-services.com
dns2.name-services.com
dns3.name-services.com
dns4.name-services.com

So, you need to use the above mentioned name servers if you want to have your DNS hosted at the registrar level, NOT server level, which will enable you to set each and every independant DNS type/record exactly how you want it, right through your client area.
