NOTE: We do make backups of server contents every 12 hours for you which are held off-site and can be accessed directly from within Cpanel using the "R1 Soft" icon, but its essential to take live backups if working on your database's directly. *This article assumes you are already logged into CPanel* From the main cpanel page click on an icon labeled as "Backup" in the Files box to go directly to the backups page. Option 1 - Full Backup of everything Backup Destination: The backup destination is where the backup file will be sent. You may choose from: Home Directory, Remote FTP Server, Remote FTP Server (passive mode transfer). Choosing the "Home" directory will store the backup within your hosting account, so please make sure you have enough disk space available in your account before using this option. If you choose to upload the backup to a remote FTP server and the FTP on that server is behind a firewall then you want to choose the 3rd option. (Remove FTP Server - passive mode transfer) Email Address is the email address where the results of the backup will be sent to as well as a link to download it. Remote Server is the server where the backup will be loaded to. Remote User is the username for the FTP account on the remote server. Remote Password is for the FTP account on the remote server. When you have entered the required information click on the button labeled as Generate Backup which will take you to a page where it will perform the backup. At the bottom left of your browser it will say done once the backup is complete. You now have a full backup of your website. Option 2 - Partial backup of home directory To access a tar.tar file you should use an application such as winrar which is similar to winzip and can be found at http://www.rarlab.com This is the quickest and easiest method for making instant backups of your entire website but this will NOT backup any of your database's. Option 3 - Backup your Database's If you have any database's setup you will see a set of links under the title Download a MySQL Database Backup which will have 1 link per database and the title of the link will be the name of the database. To generate and download an instant backup just click on the links. All database's can be fully restored using the upload box on the right. We also backup every account twice a day, so if you do not have a "database" backup yourself then you should open a support ticket via our helpdesk, giving the name of your account, what database and if applicable, the table names that you would like restored and any other relevant information that will help us. If you have any questions about backing up your website or need further assistance with this please feel free to call us for help. |
