Enabling email filtering in CPanel

*This article assumes you are already logged into CPanel.*

Email filtering is a very powerful and easy way to block out specific types of emails, either from ranges of email addresses, or emails that may contain words or types of words from ever reaching your inbox.

To get started with email filtering, you first need to know that in the new Cpanel v11 there is now 2 types of filtering, user level filtering and account level filtering.

User level filtering

This allows you to filter out and do things to emails based on a "per-email-address" level so that any email filters you create wont affect other users or email accounts. Once you click on the "User level filtering" you will be presented with a lit of all the current email accounts, and a link to manage the filters for each specific email address.

Account level filtering

This is the global setting, all filters setup here will affect your entire hosting "account" hence, account level filtering. So, regardless of which level you choose to set your filtering at, the procedure is exactly the same, simply click on the "Create new filter" button and then give the rule a name so that you can identify what its for in future, and simply follow the on-screen rules, specifying what you want to capture, and what to do with it.

You may find that some degree of trial and error are required if you are not too "tech savvy" with email and its underlying structure and methods, or email headers and such, so if you get stuck, please do ask us for some help, we'de love to hear from you and keep in touch with the kind of spam or problematic emails your getting.
