Kernel upgrades and reboots

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

This announcement is applicable to all clients except those on a VPS server.

We are currently upgrading kernels on all servers which includes:

  • All shared hosting servers
  • all dedicated servers

At the end of these upgrades a reboot will be required on all servers and this will be happening tonight after 10pm. Due to the number of servers we have and the very short amount of downtime (60-90 seconds) we are unable to give a specific time for each server.

This is a security related update which fixes a bad kernel exploit so we’re unable to give a huge amount of notice on this. We are working at getting our shared servers upgraded and rebooted by the end of tonight. It may be possible to do client dedicated’s aswell tonight but if not, these will be done tomorrow.

PHP Recompile

Friday, July 7th, 2006

Dear All

We are currently carrying out an urgent recompile of PHP on WESHSRV038 and should have everything back to normal ASAP.

During a recompile, you may see an incorrect version of PHP in a phpinfo page but do not be alarmed. This is due to PHP5 not being compatible with Cpanel and so we have to manually recompile php once its been reset

We do ask that you be patient while this is going on and we shall update here again once done.

Kind Regards
