NeoMail instability issues leads to removal

Friday, August 4th, 2006

Dear All

This is an OFFICIAL notification that from today 23:00, NeoMail has now been removed from ALL PHP5 servers. We have been monitoring NeoMail now for a considerable amount of time and have seen that in certain conditions it is causing extreme server loads on shared servers.

Condition 1

If your mailbox becomes full and you try to open the mailbox using NeoMail you are left with a continued page loading during which time a shared servers load will continue to rise. This will eventually lead to all websites being affected and a server to become unstable at extreme loads.

Condition 2

Simply leaving your webmail open all day long has also been proved to cause excessive server loads This has been proven to be a direct result of simply leaving your NeoMail webmail open, regardless of time.

Solution

We have now removed NeoMail from all PHP5 shared servers and highly recommend users switch to using SquirrelMail. SquirrelMail is a very quick webmail application and is proved to be stable with Cpanel/PHP5 and many customers have found it to be better than NeoMail. This does NOT affect dedicated server clients who are free to use whatever webmail client they wish.

Many thanks
Gordon
