After the recent upgrades of all of our PHP5 servers to v5.1.6, the use of php.ini files within your directories no longer works as an overide for a servers main php.ini file.

According to both Cpanel and PHP, this was in fact a bug that allowed customers to overide a servers php.ini file and this bug has now been fixed meaning that all customers using php.ini files will need to adjust their scripts to use their servers main php.ini file.

There is no “workaround” for this as it is classed as a bug fix so the situations is to either adjust your code or you may have a website that no longer works. You should also note the our PHP5 servers are all running phpSUexec so you will not be able to use PHP flags in a .htaccess file either.

It does however seem that this problem is only isolated to a small handfull of customers as most took heed of our 8 weeks+ notice and tested their code, then made adjustments where needed so we say a huge thank you to all of you for your efforts with this upgrade.

Last night we upgraded ALL of our PHP5 servers to the latest PHP v5.1.6 which all went very smoothly and resulted in NO downtime.

However, if you are using IONCUBE loaders, these will now be out of date and you should immediately upgrade your ioncude loaders to v5.1 Also, register globals is still switched off and will never be re-activated so please DO NOT ask.

We have been notifying customers that this was due for the last 6 weeks, and we even delayed it by 14 days after only 2 customers requested this, so please DO NOT open any helpdesk tickets asking for the upgrades to be reveresed because this is NOT going to happen.
